In this weeks Managerial Mutterings John Allen looks ahead to Saturdays game against visitors Bitton.
We have been looking forward to this game all week, both teams come into the game on the back of two wins in a row, ours in the league and Bitton’s in two separate Cup competitions, and I will take this opportunity to congratulate them on reaching the last 8 of the FA Vase.
During our promotion push last year we were motivated by the thought of playing the likes of Bitton in the Prem, the fact it’s a local derby just adds a little more spice to the occasion. We go into the game full of confidence on the back of two great away wins against Cribbs and Cadbury heath, the fact we kept two clean sheets was very pleasing, we are defending very well as a team, everybody knows their defensive responsibilities ,this detail has become the foundation of our recent success, it’s not just about our back four it starts with our forward line setting the tone, this has been personified by Jamie Noble and Matt Brown in recent months, who’s tireless work has given the opportunity for us to spring attacks by winning the ball back quickly in the final third.
Our injury problems continue with the luckless Cam Ricketts suffering another hamstring injury on Saturday away to Cadbury Heath, but we welcome back Craig Wilson and Ade Harvey respectively from inj and suspension. With Harley Purnell back in full training it just leaves Ben Harris and Nathan Curnock as long term injury concerns.
There is an air of confidence amongst the lads we embrace the challenge of facing the top sides in the league, they were disappointed not to get anything against Top 6 teams Hallen and Shepton Mallet recently so we hope we have learnt our lessons from those narrow defeats and can put a complete performance in and get a positive result to keep continuing our good form.
Thank you for your support as always.
